Trapping
The Waikawa Beach Environment Group are building up a trapping network in the area of the Village and the Strathnaver subdivision. Not all traps are currently being recorded, and therefore do not show on the map below.

There is a group on trap.nz operating nearby at Lake Waiorongomai. There is also a group trapping around Lake Huritini at the end of Walkers lane. They have reported an increase in bird life around the lake as more kills have been recorded. The WBEG group will be arranging a visit to the Huritini site later in 2025. Kills are being recorded on the Trap.NZ web site https://trap.nz/project/27056264/info
