White-tailed Spider
White-tailed Spiders are an introduced species that are now widespread throughout New Zealand and are commonly found around houses, gardens and sheds. Unlike web-building spiders, White-tails actively hunt other spiders and insects and are often encountered wandering indoors or beneath outdoor materials and vegetation.

Although bites can occur if the spider is trapped against the skin, White-tailed Spiders are generally not aggressive and serious reactions are uncommon.
Like many introduced species, White-tails now form part of the wider ecosystem found within New Zealand's urban and rural environments.
As with all spiders, the simplest approach is to leave them undisturbed or gently relocate them where practical.
