Muehlenbeckia (Muehlenbeckia complexa), also known as Pōhuehue, is a hardy native scrambling and climbing plant commonly found throughout coastal environments, dunes and estuary margins around New Zealand. Its dense, interwoven growth provides valuable shelter and habitat for insects, lizards and small birds, while its flowers and berries provide food sources for native wildlife.

Pōhuehue is highly tolerant of wind, salt spray and dry coastal conditions, making it an important species within many natural dune and coastal ecosystems.
