Pittosporum
Kōhūhū

Pittosporum (Pittosporum tenuifolium), also known as Kōhūhū, is a fast-growing native tree that is widely used in restoration projects throughout New Zealand.

Its fragrant flowers attract native insects and pollinators, while its dense canopy provides shelter and nesting opportunities for birds.

​

Kōhūhū establishes quickly and helps create the conditions needed for slower-growing native species to flourish within riparian and restoration plantings.

​​

Kōhūhū is also well suited to Waikawa Beach gardens, where it tolerates coastal winds and provides valuable habitat for birds and pollinators.
