Mallard Duck
Rakiraki

The Mallard, also known as Rakiraki, is New Zealand's most familiar duck and is commonly seen throughout Waikawa's waterways, ponds and wetlands.

Originally introduced from overseas, the Mallard has adapted extremely well to New Zealand conditions and is now widespread throughout the country.

Its adaptability and familiarity makes it one of the most recognisable birds in our freshwater environments.
