Lizards and Geckos

Healthy dunes, wetlands and native vegetation support much more than birds and plants. They also provide habitat for insects, skinks, geckos and many other small creatures that form the foundation of healthy ecosystems.

These species are often rarely seen but play important roles in pollination, seed dispersal and food webs that support larger wildlife. Protecting habitat and restoring native vegetation helps create opportunities for these often overlooked species to survive and thrive.

Many of New Zealand's reptiles are found nowhere else on Earth, making habitat protection even more important for future generations.
