In 2024 WBEG were proud to have been successful in applying for a Kanorau Koiora Taketake-Biodiversity Community Grant through Horizons Regional Council. This provided us with a full year's funding to carry out our work. We are pleased to announce that in 2025 we have applied for, and received, funding for an additional three year's continuation of this important project. 

 

The project focuses on revegetation of the Northern and Southern walkways off Reay MacKay Drive with plant species endemic to the area and will include a new pedestrian walkway linking the two walkways over time. 

The project includes a pest plant management programme and will work with local contractors and mentors from Horizons. Community weeding and planting days will be in our calendar over the next year, and beyond, to assist us meet our planting goals.
