Golden Sand Coprosma, also known as Mingimingi, is a hardy native coastal shrub naturally found on sand dunes and exposed coastal environments throughout New Zealand. Its dense branching habit allows it to thrive where salt spray, wind and shifting sands limit many other plants.

The shrub helps stabilise dunes by trapping wind-blown sand while providing shelter for native insects and producing berries enjoyed by birds. It plays an important role in maintaining healthy dune ecosystems.

At Waikawa Beach, Golden Sand Coprosma forms part of our dune restoration programme, helping rebuild resilient coastal habitats. It also performs exceptionally well in exposed coastal gardens where a tough, low-maintenance native shrub is needed.
